DR. SATYANANDA KAR

Prof. Kar received his master's degree from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and PhD in experimental plasma from Institute for Plasma Research (IPR), Gandhinagar. His PhD thesis was based on the study of excitation and propagation of electrostatic plasma waves.  At Nagoya University (Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering), Japan as a Research Fellow, he has worked on microwave sheath-voltage combination plasma. Dr. Kar has received the DAIKO Foundation Research Fellowship in 2014 and VBL Research Fellowship in 2016 from Nagoya University. Since October 2016, he has been a faculty member in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering (formerly Centre for Energy Studies), IIT Delhi.

His present research interests are atmospheric pressure plasmas.

  • Non-thermal plasmas (pulsed DC, AC, and RF) for fundamental study, biomedical applications, wastewater treatment, COâ‚‚ conversion to fuel, etc.

  • Thermal plasmas (DC and microwave) for waste treatment (waste to energy) through plasma pyrolysis/gasification and COâ‚‚ conversion to fuel.
